Since the day I found out I was pregnant with our first child, in 2002, I have had a desire to be healthy. I whole heartedly dove into research and education to learn all that I could. And so, healthy living has become a way of life for our family and the way our bodies were designed to heal never ceases to amaze me.
However, amazement can easily turn into frustration with the immensity of information out there pertaining to healthy living. And so, I have prayerfully decided over the years to take the narrow road that begins with faith. And I have discovered some simple, easy, affective life style habits for health.
The Renewing Of the mind
“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of Yahweh—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Romans 12:2
By the renewing of our minds, we can know that the will of our Creator is for us to be in health. And His will for us is to be thankful always. His timing may be different than ours and there are usually always lifestyle changes that need to be made to remain in health, but HE WANTS US WELL. With that truth as our foundation, the rest of the health journey is just a willingness to walk in what we know with a thankful heart.
Getting Rid of disease
It’s been said that the simple definition of disease is “dis-ease”. When our lives are not at ease because of toxins, stress, injuries, and poor relationships, the result is disease. It’s vital that we identify and get rid of anything and everything possible that causes our bodies to not be at ease. It’s like removing a dark cloud of confusion so that we can see the way of peace.
Nourishing the whole body
When it comes to healthy living, this is the area of health that people tend to think about most. Doesn’t a healthy diet mean I will be healthy? After all, all disease is born in the gut. Right. True, but there is a gut brain connection that comes into play here. Nourishing food can only fully nourish you if your mind and heart are in a place of peace and thankfulness. Nourishing the mind is just as important, if not more, as nourishing the belly.
Resting made easy
Rest it does a body good. More good than many would like to admit. I have come to value sleep and times of rest quite highly. Even resting the digestive system can do so much for your health. And intermittent fasting is free and easy to do. We need all kinds of rest to remain in health: rest from work, rest from noise, rest from eating, rest from stress, rest from technology, and so on.
Spending time in creation For Healthy Living
In my opinion, this is one of the most enjoyable habits that keep us healthy. I love being outside on a warm sunny day to soak up some vitamin D3 and take in all the beauty. Our Creator has been so gracious to give us such loveliness to enjoy. Even a patio filled with potted plants in the middle of the city can be a source of refreshing.
Moving matters for Healthy Living
It helps to think like a child when is comes to movement. Children who have the freedom to do so don’t let a day go by without running, jumping, climbing, and laughing. Yes, laughter counts here. It does the heart good.
Consistency is key and exercise doesn’t have to be long and complicated. My simple routine includes ten sets of 40 second exercises: counter push-ups, squats, leg-lifts, jumping jacks, and sprints. I take a 20 second break in between each one. But my favorite way to exercise is by helping to muck out the barn. Call me crazy!
Finding purpose For Healthy Living
Having a reason to get out of bed in the morning is a wonderful thing. We were all created with a purpose and discovering His purpose for our lives is better than dark chocolate. Way better! And that’s coming from someone who LOVES dark chocolate. And so I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to discover what you love. Learn, create, share, and grow in that passion and purpose that Yahweh has for you.
Choosing natural
Natural is not my favorite word because it is often used where it doesn’t belong. But in it’s appropriate use, it works. Natural hygiene, natural home remedies, natural household items, natural living in general is a choice. And we all make many of those choices every single day. Those choices add up. So the natural choice is just . . . natural.
